Indoor gardening—what plants to choose for your home and why you need them!

By: Alison Pickard

Welcome to our blog! Even though it is still 'winter' out there, it doesn’t mean that we can’t garden!

Indoor gardening comes in all shapes and sizes and let me tell you there is something for everyone! In this blog post I will explore some of those options. It doesn’t need to be elaborate like you would see at a botanical garden; it is what you make it!

As I’m sure that you’re aware, plants purify the air. At its simplest, they capture CO2 and release clean, lovely O2 back into the air. But that’s not all…they also possess the ability to filter and capture volatile organic compounds (released by products used in the home) out of the air. Not only do they clean the air, they also support our health and well-being.

There have been many studies that support that greenery in the home improves the quality of life. In the winter months we tend to spend more time indoors and there isn’t as much greenery. Plants have a positive impact on people physically and mentally. You simply feel better when there is greenery around. Like how when you see a beautiful flowering plant, it brings a smile to your face, they make you feel happy! Now, let’s get on to picking the right plant for your home.

Every home is different. We don’t all have space to keep plants but, if it is a tiny windowsill or a large bay window, there is something out there for you! There are a couple of things you need to consider when choosing plants. What kind of light do you get? How much time do you have to take care of them? Below is a chart you can use to figure out the right plant for you! Photos of my favorites can be seen below.

I hope that this post was helpful and inspired you to dip your toes into indoor gardening! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Happy Gardening!
